Streamline Your Closet in 2017

Here’s how it works.

I challenge you to streamline your closet in 2017.  Pick a day that’s coming up soon that you’ll remember like New Years, Presidents’ Day, April Fool’s Day, or your birthday. When that day arrives, turn all your hangers backward in your closet. There, that’s it.

Well, not quite. Each time you wear something, hang it back up the right way – not backwards. And voila! After 12 months you can tell at a glance what you haven’t worn for a whole year. Look at all those backward hangers. Then be brutally honest. If you haven’t worn it the past year, do you really think you’ll wear it the next year? Probably not, so pass it along to your local charity and let someone in need enjoy it.

Of course, this doesn’t work with those few things that you need, but not often. For example, you might have a few party clothes such as an evening gown or a tuxedo. You know that you may wear only them once every few years, but they are handy to have when the need arises.

For the rest of your clothes, if the hanger is still backward after a full year, it’s a good bet that it’s time to pass the garment along. There, wasn’t that painless?

Spring Flowers

Spring flowers are in bloom and we absolutely adore peonies. Brighten up your home this season with these beautiful flowers.  I challenge you to swap out your traditional florals for something a bit more feminine and sweet.  Also, with peak peonies season beginning in early Spring and extending through late June, there’s no shortage of gorgeous wedding flowers for stunning bridal bouquets.

We also love tulips and discovered these vibrant beauties on a morning stroll while in Florence, Italy last month.  Simply adorable and these Spring inspired florals arranged in the bicycle baskets just makes my heart smile (WIDE).  I’ve framed this photo and it currently sits on my desk.  Such great memories!

What’s your favorite spring flowers/bloom? As for me, send me flowers, but only peonies. xo

2016 WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS DINNER FASHION

Happy Monday!  It has been awhile since we last posted; however, we have been working behind the scenes on several upcoming fashion forward events and we can’t wait to share them with you!

This morning, let’s just discuss the 2016 White House Correspondents Dinner Fashion which took place on Saturday in Washington, DC.  As we sipped our Green Tea Kombucha compliments of Yogi and listened to a hint of Coltrane, we had a quick moment to peep several ultra stylish gowns and looks that graced the red carpet.

First Lady Michelle Obama did not disappoint wearing an embellished straight off the runway Givenchy gown that was the perfect blend of timeless, elegant.  She truly stole the show, stunned many and dropped the mic in her very own way.  We will personally miss her effortless grace, and it’s been an amazing eight years of bona fide style moments.  Wouldn’t you agree?

Fall Resale Wish List

We are getting excited about heading to NYC for a bit of resale and vintage shopping with a few of my favorite Style Mavens. Prior to hitting the road, I wrote down my “must have” resale finds that I hope to snag at either the Brooklyn Flea Market or Housing Works Thrift.  Resale shopping with a purpose is my motto and I really try not to buy things that I do not need.  As you recall from a previous post, I’m decluttering and only acquiring items that compliment my lifestyle and new and improved weekend style.

Here’s my Fall resale wish list for the upcoming MODAGE Style | NYC Resale Fashion Bus Tour event scheduled for 11.21. We have a budget, mission and game plan. Are you coming with us?

Style File ● The Look For Less

I visited the mall yesterday and spotted a leather jumper that screamed “YAAAAS,” however, the retail price was $450.  I thought back years ago when I would have splurged and purchased it without even thinking. Thank goodness I have the resale bug now, because I purchased this leather jumper that I wore to Vegas from Goodwill in Richmond for $8 and the Carmen Marc Valvo sequins blazer was $5 from Savers. The look for less for under $20.
